The history of Rivett's

Bill Rivett entered the roofing industry in the mid 1940’s working for his older brother Chris in South London. He worked his way, along with his younger brother George, to running their own business which led them to travelling from their native London daily, to tile a good deal of Harlow New Town when it was built in the 50’s. Seeing an opportunity they both moved to the area and built up an excellent reputation amongst fellow tradesmen and customers alike. Bill’s son Chris joined the firm in 1973 working in the school holidays at first. Since his father’s sudden death in 1985, Chris has carried on the family business and has endeavoured to carry on the good reputation.

W&C Rivett now also supplies and fits both HardiePlank siding and Marley Eternit Weatherboard, which are cement based cladding boards and available in a wide range of colours.

Moving into the new millenium

Whilst traditional roofing has always been the main part of the firm’s business, they entered into, what’s now become known as “Roofline” external timber replacement with PVC-ue, products in the early 1980’s. As people realise, external timber on buildings requires regular maintenance, which is expensive, time consuming and a disruptive necessity. Modern day PVC-ue products offer a permanent solution through an extensive range of profiles in a choice of colours. W&C Rivett are registered Celuform and Swish installers and are trained in the replacement of the exposed timbers on buildings with quality PVC-ue products. Each “Roofline” installation comes with an insurance backed guarantee.

Nowadays the workforce is highly experienced, very conscientious and closely supervised. Jason Wicker along with Tony Comerford, have been with the company for nearly 20 years and are highly respected tradesmen in their own right.
